The Social Security Administration (SSA) just held its annual “Slam the Scam” event. During this annual event, the SSA and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) partner to raise awareness about Social Security scams. These scams, according to the press release, are a part of an “ongoing government imposter fraud scheme.”

Additionally, the press release explains that “criminals are sophisticated and there are many variations of this fraud scheme.” This is why everyone must remain vigilant.

The agencies explain that Social Security employees won’t do a few things. These include: demanding immediate payment, threatening arrest, asking for credit/debit information, or claiming Social Security numbers are suspended.

Senior Security Alliance urges everyone to stay vigilant and report all scams encountered to the appropriate authorities. To learn more about how to protect yourself from these heinous scams, go to https://www.ssa.gov/antifraudfacts/.
