In Maryland, nearly 70% of residents 65 and older have received at least 1 dose of the vaccine since becoming eligible in January. However, The Washington Post reports that the vaccination rate of senior citizens has started to decline.
This decline in the vaccination rate for seniors comes at a time when Maryland is seeing a rise in cases. According to the article, the 7-day average of new daily cases rose to 1,196 at the end of March. The average has not been so high since February 12th.
Acting Health Secretary Dennis Schrader told The Washington Post that reaching the remaining seniors, roughly 295,000 people, is a top priority. To do this, he has set a target of getting 3,500 senior citizens vaccinated each week.
