Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah has reintroduced the TRUST Act in hopes of helping the depleting Social Security Trust Funds.

According to Lorie Konish CNBC, the bill proposed will establish “rescue committees” for the declining trust funds including the Social Security Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund.

These committees would be given 180 days to create changes that would extend each program. Any bills created by the committees would be expedited for consideration in both the House and Senate.

Regardless of the future of the TRUST Act, it’s crucial Congress passes The Senior Citizens Bill of Rights to truly protect retired Americans’ financial security.
