According to this article the Reading Eagle, September is the “prime time” for seniors to schedule vacations. Even though the vaccines have been successful at limiting the spread, it is essential seniors stay safe.

To help, the article provides some tips for travelers that will help keep everyone as safe as possible. These tips include:

  • Getting tested before the trip with a viral test
  • Wearing a mask over the mouth and nose as much as possible, but especially when on any form of public transportation.
  • Try to avoid crowds, staying at least 6 feet from anyone outside your travelling group.
  • Make sure to continue practicing good hygiene; wash hands often and use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Make sure health insurance will cover you throughout your trip
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance and travel assistance, just in case.

Additionally, when travelers arrive back at home, it is a good idea to:

  • Get another viral test 3-5 days after travel.
  • Self-quarantine for a full 7 days, even upon negative results.
  • Upon positive test results, make sure to self-isolate. This protects others from infection.
  • If travelers choose not to test, self-quarantining for 10 days after travel is recommended.
  • Avoid those at increased risk (i.e. immunocompromised) for 14 days, even if tested.
  • Monitor yourself for symptoms and make sure to isolate and get tested if any symptoms develop.

September can be the perfect time to take those much-desired vacations as tourist traffic dies down and children return to school.

However, during these trying times, it is essential that we all work together. This means we must remain aware and limit the spread by following any restrictions or recommendations in place.
