After a long and anxious wait for many, Social Security Administration (SSA) offices have started to resume in-person services. According to a recent press release from Acting Commissioner of Social Security, Kilolo Kijakazi, offices were set to reopen on April 7.
This reopening will allow individuals to walk into their local SSA office without making an appointment.
However, it’s cautioned that doing so could result in a longer wait time. This is especially true for individuals who visit the offices during peak hours. Peak hours, according to the press release, include “first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the early part of the month.”
While offices reopen, it is still strongly encouraged to utilize other methods to get the help they need; this includes calling a local SSA office, calling the toll-free number (1-800-772-1213), or utilizing their online services.
Additionally, the article notes that the SSA will be transitioning to a new phone system. This transition may cause some individuals to “experience a busy signal or be unintentionally disconnected from their call.”
