The Social Security Administration is known for being a federal government program that supports retirees. This support is seen through monthly benefit payments to eligible individuals.
While the current program is a great help to many senior citizens, it is not enough. Senior citizens deserve to have more financial security throughout their retirement; that is why we at the Senior Security Alliance are demanding improvements to the program.
Why Improvements Are Essential
Senior citizens rely on a fixed income each month; more often than not, this fixed income heavily leans on benefit payments. Unfortunately, with how the SSA is currently designed, the program does not accurately account for seniors’ spending habits. This discrepancy creates a financial insecurity that is being exacerbated thanks to the skyrocketing inflation we’re currently seeing.
As explained previously, inflation is a “silent killer,” eroding the purchasing power of benefit payments. This erosion has many seniors finding themselves unable to live the comfortable lifestyles they once did.
Essential SSA Improvements
Although the SSA is a great start for seniors, there is a lot of work that can be done to improve it.
Above all, retirees deserve to have more financial security. To help achieve this, the Senior Security Alliance has written a groundbreaking bill; this bill, The Senior Citizens Bill of Rights, provides seniors with seven essential rights. Of these rights includes the right to receive the entirety of benefit payments.
As things stand now, many seniors are at risk of seeing their benefit payments decreasing in a variety of ways. From potential benefit cuts and income taxes to ensuring accurate representation by federal employees and elected officials—the benefits our bill provides will help create a better program that can provide a more financially secure future for seniors nationwide.
