With the pandemic continuing into 2021, the Social Security Administration is offering safe alternatives to their usual services. One of these alternatives is participating in “online video hearings.”
These alternatives to in-person hearings are secure video calls that ensure socially distancing.
However, there are certain requirements for participating in an online video hearing. These hearings require access to an email account as well as a secure internet connection. In addition, the device used to perform the call must have a working microphone, camera, and speakers.
Individuals looking to participate in an online video hearing are advised to do the following:
- Before the start of the hearing, test the internet connection
- If the individual is using a computer, ensure the preferred web browser is compatible with Microsoft Teams.
- If the individual is using a mobile device, download the Microsoft Teams app and ensure it works properly.
By doing these tasks before the hearing, individuals help ensure a swift and prompt start.
