There is a lot of information a surviving spouse needs to know about their retirement benefits. Here is a video that helps to explain it.

As the video explains, surviving spouses can only take one benefit– their own or the survivor benefit. Senior Security Alliance is working to change this.

We believe it is imperative that surviving spouses be given the financial security they had while their loved one was alive. Therefore, right number 6 of our bill ensures that a “surviving spouse will continue to receive the same amount of benefits as previously earned, by said household.”
