According to this article by CNet, the IRS reported a backlog of approximately 35 million unprocessed returns in June. This backlog is due to challenges caused by the pandemic.

For those still waiting on their income tax refund, the article states that there are a few reasons it could be delayed. These include an incomplete tax return, a tax return with errors, a filing for an additional child tax credit or earned income tax credit, or a need for further review.

For those who filed claims for an earned income tax credit or the child tax credit, the article states that the wait could continue for a lengthy period of time.

This is unacceptable. A portion of those 35 million unprocessed returns almost certainly belongs to seniors. Many people need their tax returns, especially senior citizens living on a fixed income.

Help us take a stand for seniors’ financial security today by urging Congress to pass The Senior Citizens Bill of Rights.
