According to The Washington Post, President Biden fired Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul on Friday, July 9. This occurred after the 2020 Influencer in Aging, allegedly declined to resign from the position.
The article continues, claiming that Saul proposed various changes to the Social Security Administration. These changes supposedly made it more difficult for older and disabled workers to be found eligible for benefits.
However, the claim was disputed by Saul. He told The Washington Post that his goal was not to make things more difficult for the individuals who need Social Security benefits, but to “stop fraud by people improperly claiming benefits.”
In the meantime, President Biden appointed Kilolo Kijakazi as the acting commissioner. Kijakazi is the current deputy commissioner for retirement and disability policy at the Social Security Administration.
