The distribution of the second stimulus payment has begun. For those wondering where their check is, Kiplinger reports there is a way to answer the question.
As we noted a few weeks ago, individuals should be eligible if they have received benefits from Social Security, filed taxes in recent years, or be a disabled veteran.
According to the report, the IRS has a “Get My Payment” portal that individuals can use to do the following:
- Check the status of a stimulus check payment
- Confirm how the payment will be made (via direct deposit or a mailed check)
- Find out if the payment hasn’t been scheduled and/or when the projected delivery date may be.
However, Kiplinger cautions, the tool will not be able to help everyone. There are certain circumstances where an individual may not be able to access the portal.
These circumstances include:
- Not having filed a tax return for the 2019 year
- The IRS not having enough information to process the payment
- The individual did not use the non-filers payment tool before the November 21, 2020 deadline after the first stimulus payment.
