The 2022 midterm elections are quickly approaching, and everyone should make time to go out and let their voices be heard.

Midterm Elections: What Are They?

First off, what are the midterm elections? These elections occur every four years, about halfway through a presidential term. During these elections, American vote on candidates for local and state offices as well as positions within the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.

This year, the midterms will be on November 8.

Why Should You Care?

A common question Americans have about midterm elections is simply, “Why should I care?”

Luckily, the answer is simple, midterm elections can have a large impact on the direction of the nation and the presidential race.

“Whoever controls the House or Senate controls the agenda,” Gary Nordlinger, a professor of politics at George Washington University, told Share America. This means that, even during the midterm elections, it is essential to vote for individuals willing to fight for senior citizens’ rights; — this will secure the best possibility of getting these rights recognized and passed.

Be Prepared

Unfortunately, to ensure your voice is heard, you will need to do some homework. First, be sure to look up the positions in your area that are open for elections. Then, make sure to look up the various candidates for each position. Be sure to note the individuals with opinions closest to your own and get ready to vote.

Finally, make sure to look up where your voting location is and get ready to cast your ballot!
